2014 will be a very special year for the MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS Formula 1 team. The 2014 season heralds the greatest change in the rules in the history of Formula 1. In order to meet the challenges of this technical revolution, the F1 W05 was designed from scratch by the Mercedes-Benz teams in Brackley and Brixworth working together on an integrated project.
A technical revolution.
The new Silver Arrow is the most complex Formula 1 car ever to have been constructed by the team in Brackley. It is powered by the new PU106A Hybrid Power Unit, the most complex powertrain to have been developed in the history of the Brixworth works.
"This is an unbelievably exciting time for Formula 1, both from a technical and a sporting point of view. We are bringing in new technologies that are firsts not just in motor racing but also in the broader automotive world," explains Teddy Lowe, Executive Director (Technical).
Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg, the two Silver Arrow drivers, unveiled the car on schedule at the first test run and they were impressed by its handling and by its performance.
