In 1989, Mercedes-Benz joined forces with the German Golf Association (DGV) to initiate the Mercedes Challenge Cup, a national tournament series for amateur golfers.

The format and name were changed in 1991, when the first MercedesTrophy for clients and friends of Mercedes was staged. It has been organised centrally ever since. The tournament series has now established itself as an event that spans all continents.

Every year more than 57,000 golfers take part in one of the MercedesTrophy tournaments. They are all aiming to qualify for the World Final in Stuttgart,
