The Mike Horn Pangaea Expedition has covered over 59 000 nautical miles (more than twice around the Earth) on its mission to protect the planet and is now sailing off Borneo in the Celebes Sea.
This is one of the most remarkable modern-day adventures - a four-year circumnavigation of the world on sea and over land, during which extreme adventurer Mike Horn will hike to both Poles and visit every continent.
He’s not doing it alone, however. At different stages around the world he’s joined by a carefully selected group of Young Explorers, who study the Earth’s environmental challenges and how to remedy them - the aim is Explore, Learn, Act. It’s hoped that in time they will start their own projects, becoming world ambassadors and custodians of the Earth.
The third group of new Young Explorers from around the world, aged 14 to 20, joined Pangaea on 25 October, turning the yacht into a floating United Nations and allowing it to live up to its name, Latin for ‘all Earth’. The young adventurers represent South Africa, Switzerland, Brazil, France, Germany, South Korea, Czech Republic and the United States.
In addition, the yacht is being run like a ‘micro-earth’ - it has finite energy and water resources.
Mercedes magazine editor Adelle Horler is on board Pangaea in Borneo - watch this space to share the adventure.
